I’m sure this question gets asked a lot so I’m sorry for the spam, but at this point I have no idea what else to do. I’m a junior marketing student who just wants to make sure they can get a job. I am interested in strategy but I really want to make sure I keep in touch with my creative/psychological side.
* I have taken liberty in getting certified in Hubspot, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, and Google Ads. I am currently studying up a lot on SEO and Facebook Ads hope to get a certification on that soon. (Does Facebook Ads even have a certification?)
* I joined our school’s advertising club years ago, I’ll be it’s president next year, and it’s allowed me to meet a lot of professionals and network with them. How to use those connections to my advantage I’m unsure.
* I started a blog that is essentially just my thoughts and perspectives on marketing as a student. I really don’t want to make my blog make me look like I am some Chad Guru and start talking about how your business needs to use SEO when I myself have little experience using them outside my ad club’s social media accounts.
* My LinkedIn is always up to date, resume design is great (my gf is a graphic design major), I always make sure to connect with any marketing/advertising professionals who gave come to club.
I have been looking for an internship for some time but there are very few in my city since COVID hit, and it has become really hard to get a job through referral and networking with the current situation. I managed to find a marketing position for a small Laser Tag business that was essentially a sales job (I knew this but I needed something to do) and had little to do with content marketing or ads. However their business is essentially shut down indefinitely and I’m back to looking for something, going through random recruiters trying to land random remote jobs I find on LinkedIn or Glassdoor since my school’s career center has absolutely nothing.
Whatever it is I’m doing, it’s clearly not working. I understand I don’t have many skills, and I need to develop them first, but that’s what I’m trying to do. I am willing to do anything and everything, learn any new skill, start any new venture, but I just don’t know *what* to do now.
