Hey guys. I’m starting a new job tomorrow as graphic designer and marketer, I’m very excited and very nervous! The company is creating a new job for someone full time to do graphic design and marketing related tasks. The company makes industrial products.
A little background about me: I’m going to school for Computer Information Systems. When I was starting school I worked at my uncle’s company doing graphic design and marketing for 8 months because they knew I had Photoshop experience, I learned a lot and did a lot of different things while I was there. I also worked for another place designing and updating their catalog for over a month. I never thought of majoring in / making a career out of marketing it just seems like something I fell into, which I’m not opposed to I enjoy it.
A list of things they would have me do is: Graphic design for website banners, rearranging their website, updating instructions / diagrams for their products, etc. Photographing and editing products. Updating their website with new products, writing and posting email newsletters, social media posting and management. Creating and editing video tutorials. Communicating with clients. Arranging and assisting trade show related things. And researching new ways to better market their products and the company.
I have experience doing most of this at my old job except for newsletters, making tutorials, and trade shows. I’m very comfortable and confident with using Photoshop but when it comes to making “art from scratch” I’m very noobish with and don’t feel comfortable doing well.
Now I’m starting this new job at a place that’s much bigger and more “corporate” than places I’ve had experience with in the past and it makes me pretty nervous. My biggest fear is I’ll make a banner or something and they’ll think it looks “armaturish” and disappointing. Some of the things I’ve made in the past I feel like didn’t look the best but maybe I got away with it because it was a smaller company (if that makes sense). Also not everything I made looked bad I don’t want to sound like I’m just a bumbling fool lol, I’m just self conscious about pleasing them.
Is there any tips you guys could give me for starting out? Also, If I make a banner for their website, and I look for a background to use online, and the background falls under CC0 Public Domain license, would I be allowed to use it? I’m finding the definitions for commercial / non-commercial use confusing.
Thanks for reading!
TL;DR: Have some experience, starting a new corporate job, nervous about coming off like an armature. Any tips? Also can I use an image that falls under CC0 Public Domain license for a website banner?
