I work for a small manufacturing company that is heavily engineering focused. In my experience and from what I’ve heard they are hostile towards any marketing efforts, they view as unnecessary.
I’ve seen this before but these departments never had a say in what marketing did, so I didn’t care. However here they get to read and approve articles before marketing is allowed to post them to our website.
There are two people that write articles. Myself and an outside writer that is part of the web design team from an outside company. My industry knowledge is mid-level and I usually go in and edit the other writer’s articles. ✍🏽
We are writing from the perspective of people that don’t know much about our products and services. This is what content marketing is for.
Well… management never approves ANY of my articles or this other guy’s. They scoff at it and call it “unprofessional” and “too simple” “amateur” etc.
I’ve asked for feedback and to show me how they want writing done. They want white paper level writing for all of our articles.
What they write I refuse to post since it’s unreadable and has too much “curse of knowledge” jargon. 🤦🏽♂️
I read industry magazines and competitor blogs. I’ve worked here a few years and my writing is on par with all of these.
We have over 40 unpublished articles on the blog since my direct manager and others will not ok to publish. 😬
I’m getting complaints about our SEO being bad and of course… this means leads are down.
I haven’t sent a newsletter in months since I have no original articles to use. These guys don’t understand I use our blog articles for sends and basic content marketing.
I’ve given up reasoning with management about content marketing. I doubt they will ever get it.
What would you do in this situation? 🤔
Try to reason with them? Leave? Etc.
TL;DR – Company managers refuse to post any articles I write since they believe they are too simple. What would you do?
